Ahvaz city is located in the southwest of Iran and is considered the capital of Khuzestan province. The city is known as one of the hottest places on earth. The heat in the summer months is unbearable for locals and guests. Ahvaz is the fourth largest city in the country. The main attraction of the city is the River Karun, which divides the city into two parts. Due to the numerous bridges, Ahvaz is also called “the city of bridges”.
Once Ahvaz was the residence of the shahs. In the XII century, the city was constantly destroyed and plundered. The canals were drained, and the dams were destroyed. The city gained its former greatness after the construction of the railway. Now Ahvaz is considered the center of the metallurgical and oil industry.
The most popular place in the city is the pier where locals and guests spend summer evenings. A beautiful view of the bridges of the river Karun opens from the pier. You can go boating or just stroll around the park and enjoy the nature.
Each city in Iran has its own city bazaar. In Ahvaz, Talekani is the local bazaar where you can buy souvenirs and taste traditional dishes in the restaurant.
