Taxi service is one of the most common and convenient ways of transportation. Taking a taxi in your hometown is so easy while getting a taxi in an unknown country and city is completely different story. Before taking a tour to an unknown country, you’d better find out the approximate prices for public transport, as well as the price of a taxi service, thus making your trip as comfortable as possible. As for taxis in Iran, it is quite a popular type of travel for locals and tourists.
In Tehran, there are two types of taxi service – cheap and comfortable. If you want to save money on transport, you can choose route taxis in Tehran. Route taxis ride in densely populated areas and along major routes. These are green and yellow cars with taxi signs that pick up passengers along the way. The fare is fixed (about 2000 toman) and it is suitable for short trips.
You can take a route taxi in the street or wait for a taxi in special parking lots. Keep in mind that you won’t be alone and you will not have the opportunity to get to the exact place of destination. Before the trip, please find out whether the taxi follows the direction that you need.
Taxi “dar baste”
Taxi “dar baste” is the one we are used to. Still, it is quite expensive. “Dar Baste” is translated as a closed door. This means that the taxi driver has no right to take another passenger other than you. In order not to have problems with the price and payment of travel make sure to discuss the price in advance, otherwise the driver can demand a triple fee.
The taxi agency is another convenient way to order a car by phone. Taxi parks are mostly located in residential areas and there are about 10 cars at the disposal of the service. In order to get a car, you can ask for a taxi in the nearest cafe, shop or hotel. “Azhans” is more affordable than “dar baste” and the price depends solely on distance. The only minus of the taxi service is not a fixed fare: during rush hours and bad weather, the fare can be a little higher.
The world-famous online taxi Uber is the most convenient of its kind. In Iran, the analog of Uber is Snapp application. The application works on the same principle: you specify the location on the map and the system automatically selects the nearest taxi. At the moment, online taxi service is available in Tehran and Isfahan.
